Tech Development Leads to Personal Development

Taking on a project as big as Flavvr was fun, but that doesn’t mean it was easy. We were stretched with deadlines and faced with building an app from the ground up... And that was just the business side of things.

Tech Development Leads to Personal Development

Many learn to swim in a local pool or creek under the watchful eye of a more experienced swimmer. App development agencies often take a similar tack with their first projects in the industry. In the case of Chek Creative's first app build, however, a more apropos analogy might be cliff diving into an ocean.

Lessons on the External Side of Business: Communication & Expectation Management

Instead of dipping our toes into app development, we accepted an enormous challenge in our early days. Working as a small team, our developers created an entire platform on the investment and trust of a new, but well-funded startup. When we jumped into Flavvr, our first dining and restaurant app, it was head first.

Taking on a project as big as Flavvr was exciting, but that doesn’t mean that it was anything close to easy. On our end, we were faced with building an app from the ground up with some very tight deadlines. We attempted to balance this pressure with the simultaneous mandate to help grow Flavvr as a brand and business. With that in mind, creating content, forming business strategies, and meeting sales goals were always on our radar at the same time as our development tasks.

But you know what? We survived. Our team learned how to better communicate around client expectations and how to manage workloads more effectively.

But that was just the business side of things.

Lessons on the Internal Side of Business:
Unity & Patience

From a personal standpoint, our team members were forced to rely on each other in ways we might never have learned to otherwise. We developed a whole new level of trust in one another and in our clients. Where we once sought individual autonomy, holding each other to unrealistically high standards, we learned to instead seek unity and exhibit patience.

While developing the Flavvr App, we learned to trust every member of our little squad to put in that little bit of extra effort that can propel a team forward in challenging moments. As a result, building Flavvr turned out to be an extraordinarily rewarding and instructive experience for us. The project ultimately gave our team the strength, perspective, and experience to continue navigating the often murky waters of the app development industry.
